This fall, we will be headed to the Dominican Republic with Convoy of Hope! The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti and is susceptible to natural disasters and recurrent shocks. The country has experienced economic decline, perpetuating hunger and food insecurity — poverty affects more than 20% of the population. With the majority living in urban areas, 63% of low-income families are led by women. Food insecurity is caused by a weak agricultural structure and a lack of diverse diets. Limited access to healthy food also contributes to a high rate of anemia among children.
In 2022, through partnership, Convoy of Hope launched Children’s Feeding in the Dominican Republic, providing regular, nutritious meals in schools. These nutrient-enriched meals address malnutrition and anemia for children in this context. Convoy of Hope has also implemented agriculture programming in the Dominican Republic in an effort to
create long-term food security and sustainability. Convoy requires all Field Team participants to be 18 & up.
