The Table – Table Talk

Meaningful CONVERSATIONS are the way to genuine CONNECTION.

Psalm 128 (NIV)
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord. 5 May the Lord bless you from Zion; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all.

3 keys to having meaningful conversations:

  1. Ask QUESTIONS

Mark 10:51 (NLV)
Jesus said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Lord, I want to see!

John 5:5-6 (NLV)
A man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 Jesus saw him lying there and knew the man had been sick a long time. Jesus said to him, “Would you like to be healed?”

James 1:19 (NIV)
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak .

Capacity (time) creates space for conversations to happen. Questions are the spark that get the conversations going.

“Without a good question, a good answer has no where to go.” – The Coaching Habit

QUESTIONS always come before ANSWERS.

  1. Show CONCERN.

Galatians 6:1-3 (NLT)
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer[a] is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

People don’t CARE what you KNOW until they KNOW that you CARE.

“Care starts with the highest level of connection called empathy. Empathy is the communication that says You’re not alone. I’m with you.” – Brene Brown

  1. Be VULNERABLE.

James 5:16 (ESV)
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” – Brene Brown

Revelation 12:11 (KJ21)
And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

Your STORY can be an encouragement to someone else’s STRUGGLE.
