Matthew 5:3 (NIV)
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

“Poor in spirit” is recognizing that I am spiritually poor. Utterly Helpless, Spiritually Bankrupt, one who realizes their need for God.

Matthew 5:4 (NIV)
Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted.

“Happier is the one who is sad, for they will be comforted.”

Sin (Hamartia) = to miss the mark

The comforts of this world will fade away, the comfort Jesus gives us will never fade.

Luke 15:20 (NIV)
But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

Luke 15:21 (NIV)
I’ve sinned against Heaven and you, I’m not worthy to be your son!

Luke 15:24 (NIV)
For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

It all starts with REPENTANCE.

Repentance (metanoia) = “To think differently afterwards” or “turn a different direction”

Repentance is a GIFT.

Did your behavior change?

Blessed you will be when you mourn over sin, for you WILL be comforted!

Romans 3:23 (NIV)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

The Bad News: The Wages of Sin is Death

The Good News: The Gift of God is eternal life in Jesus!

1 Corinthians 15:55 (NIV)
Where, O’ death is your victory? Where, O’ death is your sting?

Our VICTORY is through JESUS!

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV)
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
